Congregation B'nai Butte

Crested Butte, Colorado

Rabbi-Cantor Robbi Sherwin

Spiritual Leader

Robbi Sherwin, who was raised in small towns as an Air Force “brat,” has been B’nai Butte’s spiritual leader since 2006. Although not a native Coloradan, she got here as fast as she could, and she commutes to us from Austin, Texas.

Robbi credits her years at Jewish summer camp for her love of Jewish music, ritual and holidays, and her deep connection to Israel. Robbi believes in bringing Judaism down from the bima, (pulpit) and that sacred community can be built no matter where you are. Ordained as a rabbi in 2014, and as a cantor in 2003, Robbi has spent decades singing and teaching.

In her other life, "Rockin'" Robbi Sherwin has established herself as one of the most energetic touring artists today. Her "spirited Jewish songcrafting" has found its way into synagogue worship, concert halls, and summer camps from Tulsa to Tel Aviv. Folk, rock, pop, and "Jewgrass" stylings are evident on her first two solo CDs, Todah LaChem(Thanks, Y'all) and Aish HaKodesh (The Holy Fire.) She is 1/3 of the critically acclaimed band, Sababa! (“cool”) with partners Steve Brodsky (Denver) and Scott Leader (Phoenix), who are touted as the “Crosby, Stills & Nash” of Jewish music. Sababa is currently working on their 4th album of original Jewish folk-rock music.  Their discography includes: “Shalosh” (Three) November 2012;  "Pray for the Peace” (2007) and “It’s All Good (2010), all  award-winning internationally recognized recordings.
Robbi is also a noted and sought-after scholar/artist-in-residence, commissioned songwriter and published author. She loves to cook, camp, ride horses, hike, raft and hang out with her family.  She is married to natural resources attorney, Mark Jordan, who serves as the water conservation manager for the City of Austin. They have 3 adult kids: Jessica, Katy, and Sam, and one awesome son-in-law, Chris.

Rabbi-Cantor Robbi is thrilled to be the spiritual leader of B’nai Butte and invites all to check out the “Rocky Mountain chai” of this very special community. She is available for pastoral care and  for all life cycle events, warmly welcoming Jews and others of any background as well as LBGTQ+ individuals and families.
